This is one-on-one work, just you and me — unhurried, relational, and oriented entirely around what you need. 50-minute sessions are available in person in the Portland area and via telehealth anywhere in Oregon.
Together we'll find the format that works best for where you are and what you're working through. My approach is body-based and relational. I draw on somatic therapy, Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness practices, and family systems theory — not as a protocol, but as ways of meeting you where you actually are.
We follow what's alive and true for you, not a predetermined script. The work I do most often touches on faith and spiritual transitions, complex developmental and attachment trauma, life passages and identity shifts, medical transitions and health crises, and the particular challenge of becoming someone different than you were expected to be.
If something you're carrying doesn't appear on that list, reach out anyway — these are starting points, not boundaries.
Fees and Insurance
-
I keep the first step light on purpose. We talk. We see whether it’s a fit. Then we decide together what’s next.

This fee covers a standard 50-minutes session.

Using your mental health benefits can help offset the cost of therapy. Coverage often works like other health benefits — visit limits, copays, and deductibles — and usually requires that care be medically necessary (a diagnosis, and sometimes prior authorization).
I am in-network with Aetna. Please verify your benefits with Aetna before we begin, since plans differ and I can’t quote your copay or guarantee coverage.
I am not yet in-network with other insurance plans. For out-of-network plans, I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible reimbursement.
Private pay is also available. Reach out if you have questions and we can find what fits.
-
If you have an insurance provider that is not listed above, services may still be covered in part or in full if you have “out-of-network mental health benefits.” Please contact your insurance provider using the member services number listed on the back of your health insurance card for more information about your benefits. I am able to provide a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement of out-of-network benefits.

If none of these options sound like they would be a good fit for you, there are some other community resources in the Portland area that you can look into:
Portland State Community Counseling Clinic ($20 per session or less)
William Temple House (sliding scale starting at $1)
Mindful Therapy PNW (sliding scale available)
River’s Way Clinic (sliding scale from $5 - $65+)

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to provide a good faith estimate of expected charges for items and services to individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services. “I became a therapist not because I had it figured out. Because I didn't — and life kept going anyway. I know what it is to stand in that liminal space where the old story has ended and the new one hasn't found its shape yet. And I know that something real can be built there.”

Private-pay sessions are $160. If you're using insurance or would like a superbill, my standard rates are $222 for the first session and $175–$220 for ongoing sessions, depending on length. I'm in-network with Aetna, so please check your benefits with your plan.
-
Not yet. I'm working on contracts with several other insurance companies and will update this page as soon as I'm officially in-network. In the meantime, you can pay privately at $160 a session, or I can give you a superbill to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Yes. I see clients in person on Wednesdays in West Linn and offer telehealth for clients located anywhere in Oregon.
-
Yes. My practice focuses on individual therapy for adults. I don't currently offer couples therapy or therapy for children or teens in this practice.

License as an LCSW. Group coaching, such as my current offering, Heart Song, is a non-clinical program focused on personal growth and connection in community. It doesn't diagnose or treat mental health conditions, and it isn't a substitute for therapy.
-
To keep each relationship clear and protect the integrity of your care, group coaching isn't open to current therapy clients or anyone I've seen in therapy within the past 12 months. This follows Oregon's ethical standards for licensed social workers. If you're not sure which service fits you, a free 20-minute consult is a good place to start. You can request one at genetfriess.com or call (503) 567-9458.
